Just outside of Boston on the Charles, Norumbega park was a classic pre-war amusement park. Today sits a Mariott alongside the Norumbega Park Conservation Area featuring jogging and walking trails. The park's main attraction was the Totem Ballroom, which featured several well known performers from the swing era including Frank Sinatra, Artie Shaw, and the Dorsey Brothers. Eventually the war began to decrease demand for local amusement parks, followed by the proliferation of the automobile and competition from larger regional parks.
