Hawaii: the newest state to join the union. Once a kingdom that was overthrown by somewhat nebulous forces to become part of the United States (Hawaii USA!), but... we won't get into that. We're here to talk Hawaii t-shirts, not politics and history.

There aren't many instances where we'd suggest getting as close to active volcanoes as possible, but for visiting Hawaii, we really think you should make an exception. Before your Hawaii vacation, you will want to learn some key phrases. In Hawaii aloha is an easy one. Mele Kalikimaka (Merry Christmas) is intermediate. And for the experts, learn the name of the official state fish: Humuhumunukunukuapua'a.

After a few of those, your sense of direction could be impaired. In that case, make sure you've got a map handy. Or, at the very least, instructions for whoever finds you to return you to where you belong.
