Rock and Roll’s Hometown 

There’s just something about the 216. Alongside Lake Erie is a proud little city, home to a vibrant arts and music scene, beautiful parks, and… Lebron James. Yes, besides being the home of rock and roll, Cleveland is also host to some of the best athletes in professional sports. As a result, this city is densely populated with diehard fans, ready to rally for their teams at a moment’s notice.

Cleveland Sports Culture 

Cleveland has a rich sports history with many professional teams. Some are old, some are new, but all call CLE home. As is the case in many cities, the oldest team is the baseball team. The Guardians (formerly the Indians) were founded in 1901 and sadly are the record holders for the longest World Series drought — their last championship was won in 1948. We have faith.

Next up are the Cleveland Browns, who started kicking in 1946. Then came the Cavs in 1970, a mere 14 years before Lebron James would grace this planet. If you think we’re gonna talk about Cleveland sports without mentioning the GOAT at least twice, you’ve got another thing coming.

The Cleveland Monsters have been tearing up the ice in the AHL since 2007 and AFC Cleveland have been taking penalty kicks in the NPSL since 2011. 

Though small, Cleveland is proud of its pro-sports, and with so many teams, there’s always something to watch.

Cleveland’s Past Glories 

We’re big fans of Cleveland’s current roster, but we can’t help but look back at the teams of the past. Gotta love a throwback, right?

Real ones will remember the Cleveland Barons of the NHL, who played from 1976 to 1978. The team eventually merged with the Minnesota North Stars, who now play in Dallas. If you still grieve the void of an NHL team in Cleveland, we’re with you.

Remember the Major Indoor Soccer League? The city was represented in league with the Cleveland Force. The team’s name was a reference to the power harnessed by the Jedi in Star Wars. It was 1978. They played for a decade and only stopped using Darth Vader as a mascot when Lucasfilms politely sent a cease and desist. Ah, happy memories!
