In October 1995, the Major Indoor Lacrosse League (MILL) announced that Charlotte, North Carolina would field a new professional lacrosse team. The franchise would be called the Charlotte Cobras and the team would play their home games at Independence Arena. The Cobras played one full season in 1996, but folded after failing to win a single game.
