April 8th 1967 was the first day that Pirates World opened to the public. It was a pirate-themed amusement park located on 100 acres in Dania, FL. Pirates World was very successful for several years before the opening of Walt Disney World in 1967. Naturally, this resulted in a huge decline in business for the theme park and Pirates World shut down two years later in 1973.
