Philly? We Love That Jawn.

If you get it, you get it. If you don’t, we feel sorry for you. That’s the attitude around Philly, a vibrant and proud city on the edge of Pennsylvania. Philly sports fans are a different breed, withstanding winning streaks and droughts alike with skill and patience. Whether you’re new to the city or raised by it, repping Philly gear isn’t just a clothing choice. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a love for the jawn.

Sports in the City of Brotherly Love 

Philadelphia is up to its ears in sports teams, home to the Phillies, the Flyers, the Sixers, the Eagles, and the Union. Between them, the city has won 16 championships.

The Phillies are the oldest of the franchises, entering the major leagues in 1883. It is the oldest continuously-named baseball team in the country, having never changed its name or folded.

Next up are the Eagles, who started playing in 1933. They briefly merged with the Steelers in 1943, becoming the Steagles — yes, that happened — but besides that, the Eagles have always called Philly home. Are we still riding the high of Super Bowl LII? You better believe it.

The 76’ers came next in 1946. They rank third on most NBA wins of all time. They originally played as the Syracuse Nationals, arriving in Philly in 1963.

Just a few years later the Flyers entered the scene, as a part of the 1967 NHL expansion. The Flyers have given us so much over the years but by far their greatest contribution is that of Gritty, beloved mascot and city icon. We love you, Gritty.

Last but certainly not least is the Philadelphia Union, which joined the MLS in 2008. The team plays most of their games at Subaru Park, overlooking the Delaware River.

Philly’s Past Sports Teams 

Sports are a constant in Philadelphia and several teams have passed through the city. The Philadelphia Arrows repped Philly in the Canadian-American Hockey League in the 1920s. The Philadelphia Atoms scored goals in the North American Soccer League in the ’70s. And who could forget the Philadelphia Blazers of the World Hockey Association? If you’re a real one, you might remember the Philadelphia Bulldogs, an inline hockey team that had a brilliant, albeit brief stint in the ’90s.

Fact is, the 215 is a sports lover’s dream of a city. Even better, it comes with cheesesteaks.
