The Erie Panthers played for 8 seasons in the ECHL and were one of the league's most popular teams during their tenure. They were well known for their aggressive style of play which, to the delight of fans, resulted in many fights to break out on the ice. The Civic Center in downtown Erie was a small venue, and its concrete walls would amplify the crowd noise, earning the reputation as the loudest rink in the league.
