Due to fear in Buffalo, NY that the city would lose the beloved Bills football team, businessman Mike Hamister founded an arena football team to begin playing in 1999. The franchise was called the Destroyers and they used the HSBC Arena to play their home games. However, the Bills soon decided to stay In Buffalo and the Destroyers were quickly relocated.
