The Whiskey Trust was born here in 1887, and after Prohibition the biggest distillery in the world went up on the Illinois River. A horse-drawn buggy, a doctor’s name, and a bottle meant to fix whatever ailed you. The stills went quiet in the eighties. The prescription still stands.
