Despite its name, the Hollywood Sportatorium never served as the permanent home for any sports franchise. There were many attempts to bring several different hockey teams to play here, but all were foiled leaving eager fans in disappointment. The venue however was very well known as the Rock Mecca of South Florida. Because of Florida's heat and frequent rain, the Sportatorium quickly became a favorite location for concerts over nearby Pirate World in Dania Beach. It would remain the area's most popular concert venue from the early '70s through 1988 when Miami Arena opened.
