Show Your Pride for Beantown

Has any city dominated sports culture as much as Boston in recent years? From the Patriots to the Bruins, Boston is a playoff mainstay across multiple sports and leagues. For such a small city, it makes a big impact on the national stage.

Boston’s success isn’t just built on great athletes and coaches — don’t get us wrong, that helps — this city has some magic in the air when it comes to sports. Unlike any other, the fans show up day over day, year over year, with unparalleled passion and devotion. If they didn’t give up during the 86-year-long Curse of the Bambino, they never will.

Boston Sports Culture

Boston has a home team in every major professional league in the country. The Patriots of the NFL, the Red Sox of the MLB, the Bruins of the NHL, the Celtics of the NBA, and the (maybe lesser-known) Revolution of the MLS proudly represent the greater Boston area.

Each team is dominant in its own right. Except for the Revolution, they’ve all won multiple championships. In fact, the Celtics have won 17.

They’ve had some time to build up records like that. The Bruins are the third-oldest team in the NHL, slapping pucks since 1924. The Celtics are one of the eight original NBA teams. The Red Sox have been hitting homers since 1901 and playing ball in Fenway Park since 1912 — it’s the oldest active baseball park in the country.

The point is, Boston teams have been around the block.

The Best of Boston’s Past

That said, not every team that’s passed through Boston has that kind of legacy.

The Boston Beacons played in the North American Soccer League for one season in 1968 before folding. The Boston Minutemen then picked up the city’s gap in pro-soccer from 1974–1976.

A couple of decades earlier, the Boston Tigers represented The Hub in the Canadian-American Hockey League. They won three championships between 1926 and 1936.

Win or lose, thrive or fold, Boston fans will always show up for their teams. If you’re lucky enough to call the 617 your home, do us a favor and pick us up a slice of Regina’s, head over to the Green Monster for a game, and do it all wearing apparel that makes you proud to be from Titletown.
